Global Segment with TAS and Cultivate Toronto

The Rooftop Garden at 7 Labatt was crowded last week.  TAS president Mazyar Mortazavi and CultivateTO Co-Founder Chris Wong appeared on Global’s The Morning Show with host Liem Vu.

The Morning Show, hosted by Liza Fromer, Leslie Roberts, Kris Reyes and Rosey Edeh, is broadcast weekdays from Global’s street-level studio on Bloor Street in Toronto. The Toronto edition airs from 6am-9am, features an eclectic mix of conversation, information and entertainment as well as interviews with news makers, movers and shakers, and celebrities. TAS was happy to have made the cut along with our partner Cultivate Toronto, with this chance to showcase our extremely successful partnership in Regent’s Park.

The 108 planter boxes that make up the garden are maintained and cared for by Cultivate Toronto, with a portion of the boxes, the roof space, and supplies for caring for and storing the fresh grown produce provided by TAS. Well into it’s second year, this rooftop vegetable garden produces hundreds of pounds of vegetables, a third of which is donated to the Regent Park Community Food Centre at 40 Oak St. The remainder is sold during the Regent Park farmer’s market.

Thus, the garden contributes to the community it grows in, and creates a functional site of urban agriculture in the middle of Regent’s Park

Despite the early hour of the broadcast, Mazyar and Chris were happy to talk about the reasons behind their collaboration, as well as details of the garden itself. Watch the video below to learn more!

How exciting to see the TAS-CTO rooftop farm on Global TV this year! The garden looks great and even more productive than last year.
